Story

Four months after my daughter was born, I returned to work remotely. My mother, a newly retired childcare director and professor, came to nanny. Suddenly, I realized, wouldn't it be fabulous if every family had this?

We sit in the yard, go on a walk, or even have a little dance party to French disco music. One thing I love about Europe is the midday breaks and socializing. Weekends are for beaches. Spent the day on a girl mom date with an amazing friend from yoga. Walked the Carp Bluff trail with my Bebe in the carrier, but you could easily do it in a stroller. Especially if you had a friend to help you over the RR tracks. Parking is plentiful, and the seals and babies are out on the beach. Have you seen the baby seals??? 🦭

Building behind the scenes:
We've been working on the demo and permitting at 557 E Thompson. This week, Cody, our carpenter,
1) demoed an old utility room to become our new children's toilet area.
2) Removed old carpet and shelving to make our Zoom booth nook.
3) Put together a couple of playhouses we got for a steal on Facebook marketplace.
4) And best of all, added our new address numbers to the front porch!

Then our amazing architect @robert_mclaughlin uploaded our new site survey to the city planners and our painters started making plans to prep the barn for primer once our permitting is finished. It takes a village!

Get ready to welcome a gem of a gem! Katie Whorrall will join our team in July to direct our toddler program and the day-to-day operations of the creche. Katie has been leading children since 2011, holds a master of arts in early childhood, is Reggio Emilia trained, and has tons of forest school experience (including holding a forest school in the snow during COVID!) A California native, she is returning to California after spending the last five years directing preschools in Montana.

She will also lead our parenting classes on mindfulness and supporting toddlers as they grow and develop. We hope to have these classes up and running by fall, and we are ecstatic to have her lead ours! It takes a village. @katiewhorrall

Meet Aline our second outdoor intern. As an environmental studies major at UC Santa Barbara, Aline has been connecting children to nature each summer at camps in Los Angeles at Sandy Days Beach Camp and Camp Hollywood. She has three years of experience working in outdoor programs and is a junior studying environmental law and policy. However, Aline says and I agree, "I firmly believe that one of
the largest impacts we can have on the future of our environment is working to foster an
